Wash pump.

Unread post by mashy » Mon Nov 25, 2019 1:54 pm

I have struggles to get enough pressure out of the BM20 pump for CIP.

It has just dawned on me a have a low tap, and all the fittings ..... I could just add a dedicated pump for washing!!

Anyone any idea of what pump might do it or any thoughts on the subject?

You need big pump - I've used a Karcher SP3 water pump that shifts 166 l/min - this is enough to spin the CIP. Although I haven't really built this into my process. I got the pump so that I can dump into a bucket in the shed and pump to the drain (about 60ft uphill)

My current thinking is a cleaning lid.

Pump on top. Underneath (inside) a dip tube for suction and the CIP head(s)

Process. Wash out the obvious lose trub. Then add a bucket of hottest water saved from IC. Add chemicals. Run. Drain. Rinse. Drain. Done.

I created a new lid out of an old bit of mdf for a test. The long term plan would be to drill the real lid and fit a tri-clamp port. It would have to be off-centre through, because of the central rod and I'm not sure if that would end up rattling the lid. I checked with brewuk - and they can supply a new lid for 30 euros I think - so there's a way out if you mess it up.

You made me think - I wonder if the catering supply guys do a lid to fit.

I have a 'hoofing great' wine transfer pump I could use with just a few extra fittings. This thing will shine so bright when I an done you will be able to see it from your place.......

Did a little google.. thought I would repost this..

Just too good and too easy. Build one of these and stand it in the BM.

Hi Mashy

I have a 30 ltrs per minute pump on my keg cleaner and although it drives the CIP it is still a bit lame, I would be looking at at least 100 ltrs per minute if I was to upgrade or make a tub cleaner.

This reminds me - I still need to make one of these! I got a PVC 6way junction from China ages ago - I just need to get the rest of the parts - I'll be building out of plastic pipe to attach to my karcher pump .

This just got me thinking, found a submersible on Ebay 166 ltrs per minute I can add a karcher hose ext to a 40cm paella lid again cheap on Ebay with CIP upside down in the BM.
This pump will also upgrade the keg cleaner with a made up adaptor to my existing pipe.

Thanks Nash

The ball I ordered said 15lpm. 900lph.

On the link Mark said 600 gallon per hour.
So I bought 2500 lph (40 lpm) pump based on 600*4.5

I think its about getting pump and head to match.
Let's see. There will come a point where the pump won't fit in the width available in the BM.

Have you a link to the pump on Ebay Mashy?
Cheers
just realised my idea will not work as the water return will not be quick enough, using a separate vessel.so will have to get pump that fits inside the BM.

....if you hang on, mine should be here soon and I can check... but lets be fair they are hardly rocket science to build.
