Maiden BM20 Brew: Bernsteinfarbenes Weizen

Unread postby malzrohr » Wed Sep 03, 2014 12:19 pm

My maiden brew on my shiny new BM was a Hefeweizen.
See the attached BeerXML file for the details.
Some notes about the xml:
  • take a look at the notes section for the mash profile and carbonation details. I use BrewPal and it doesn't have a profile for step mashes without water additions. Also, selectable fermentables for carbonation are limited in BrewPal.
  • System losses are ballpark figures, because I don't have statistics based on experience yet.
  • I cheated  by adding 5g glucose to increase the glucose/maltose ratio in the wort to get some isoamyl acetate (banana ester). I didn't think it was a good idea to start with decoction, maltase mashing scheme, etc.

Hefeweizen. This image was taken 4 days after bottling: Very young, nice banana aroma, medium bodied. Will be better after some more maturation.

Es ist zwar ein sehr gutes Bier, die Goslarische Gose; doch wenn man meint, sie sey im Bauch, so liegt sie in der Hose.

Nice one! I didn't try much hefeweizens yet, but I have a trip to the Eifel planned in a few weeks so that might change.

Nope, my girlfriend is out of town for the weekend so I'm guarding our offspring...
