Whiskey in the Braumeister

Unread post by Azagil »

Hi all,

Just wondering how many of you have tried doing an all grain boorbon or scotch through your Braumeister‘s and how they turned out? (Clearly had to distill the end wash)

Thinking or doing on this weekend, just wanting an idea how others might have gone ??

Cheers.

I've done whiskys with success, both boiled and no chilled, and no boil or mash out, chilled and pitched straight away.

I would love to do bourbon but mashing something like 70% corn scares me.

What grain bills for whiskey did you use? What was your favourite?
I just ran a bourbon bill with 70% corn maise (and rice hulls) and it seemed to come out well, no issues. It’s fermenting well now so will see how it goes.

Sorry for the late reply...I've done 100% heavy peat for an Islay type Scotch. Other Scotches using a typical beer grain bill. Say 5% crystal and maybe a pinch of chocolate.
The best whisky had 24lt of cubed wort which was boiled and 24lt of wort that wasn't boiled or mashed out to keep the enzymes working.
