Pumpkin Ale Recipe

Unread postby eli.donald » Sun Oct 25, 2015 1:39 pm

This is a pumpkin beer I brew for my Thanksgiving every year.
First time on a BM though so hoping it turns out as expected. Should be about 6.8%

4.83 kg Pale Malt, Maris Otter (5.91 EBC)
0.5 kg Caramel/Crystal Malt - 40L
0.1 kg Cara-Pils/Dextrine
0.1 kg Crystal Extra Dark - 120L
Roasted flesh of two large pumpkins (add to mash)

10 g Simcoe [15.00 %] - Boil 60.0 min
10 g Simcoe [15.00 %] - Boil 20.0 min
1.0 pkg Windsor Yeast

Mash Schedule: BIAB, Medium Body
----------------------------
Name Description
Saccharification Add 27.5l 67 C 60 min
Mash Out 75 C 10 min

Add 1 table spoon pumpkin pie spice to secondary

First time I've been interviewed for a brewing podcast - was terrifying.
No laughing at me!

Did almost the same on Halloween afternoon. Added Styrian Dana (13,4% 60 min.) and 13 g Saaz 5 min.

My definition for pumkin is 4 kg and not two large or similar... hehehe

:) I'm working on the Mosaic IPA don't worry - however it's the club competition in January so I have a lot of brewing to fit in, need to make at least one of each of the following
Bitter, English IPA, American Pale, American IPA, 80 Shilling and maybe an American Wheat.

I won one medal out of two submissions last year and my mate won 4 so my hope is to beat his medal count this year but I'm not sure how I can fit all this brewing in, keep the american beers fresh, condition the 80 shilling properly and all this with only one fermentation fridge (I really want to enter a couple of beer in each category but think that would result in divorce)

There may be spreadsheets

Hi! @eli.donald how did you add the pumpkin to your brew? Baked and then mixed with water? Did you add it to the grain basket or just the water?

Same question here.... do you mix the pumpkin flesh to the grain or you add it to the water... if added to water I guess it needs to be in big blocks... ?
