need to work out what commercial yeast is closest to SN.s. i read somewhere that Irish ale yeast was recommended?

I have a spare slant of the Sheps yeast that I recovered from a bottle Of 1977 Jubilee Ale. It is six months old but if you have the facilities to use it I will send it to you free. It is probably still viable. Just PM me your address.

That is a very generous offer.

You might find that Shepherds' themselves are very helpful

i did enquire about the recipe a year or so ago - they gave me broad guidelines but nothing specific. also a tour of the brewery gave no clues.

If you go to the Brewlab site there are detailed instructions on how to grow a starter from a slant. It's really quite easy.
