Seen the I-Spindle stuff but I am not interested in that type.

There are a couple of threads on this and the jury is out. The Krausen can affect readings. There are do it yourself options but this would be my choice too, if it was 100 percent reliable. A that price it needs to be! A second version came out recently but not sure the issues have been resolved.

I used the tilt hydrometer for the last batches.
I am very satisfied. the SG is spot on. I did a comparison with a precise hydrometer (0-7 Plato scale)
for sure you will have some ups and downs due to fermentation (not a perfectly linear graph) but good enough to monitor the fermentation.
The software is very annoying. I use now a raspberry pi and works fine but is a nightmare to setup.

check this google sheet for example

nothing to complain but the price.

the last version has only one screwed cap instead of 2. this is the only upgrade.

Bonsoir,

I have one, and it's a fun gadget. Couldn't swear by the accuracy of the 'plot', but pretty reliable for knowing when fermentation has finished.

Apparently the version 2 model now has better battery life and much improved gravity and temperature accuracy. :drink:

Monsieur Badger-
How do you sterilise yours for use-do you soak/spray in Starsan solution?

Thats what appeals to me-to know when fermentation is complete and no constant faffing about taking readings and wasting good beer! :beerbang:

tilt hydrometer is now at the 3rd version.
the second version has better battery life and improved accuracy.(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQcNIgNrZTg)
the third version has one cap instead of two (https://tilthydrometer.com/blogs/news/u ... w-shipping)

My process with tilt:

- leave tilt in starsan cup until i oxygenate
- calibrate tilt in distilated water (i do it before each fermentation)
- sink tilt into wort

Yes, exactly that. Just chuck it in the bucket of Starsan solution, along with everything else.

Cristian,
Do you know if Tilt Pi would run on an older model Raspberry Pi ?
I have had a look around as i used to dabble in them for a while as a hobby.
I have found a 2014 Raspberry Pi 2 model B V1.1 with 512 Mb ram or do i need a Pi 3 B plus or a ZERO W model
Cheers

You would need a Bluetooth adapter on an older Pi.

“It also works on Raspberry Pi 2 with WiFi and BLE adapters. "

More details here: https://tilthydrometer.com/products/tilt-pi-raspberry-pi-disk-image-download

You will need Linux knowledge to do it. (I don’t :? )
As I understood this is a customized Raspbian OS made for the Tilt with some limitations in functionalities.
I am using the version that looks like a "console" and I connect to the interface via local IP address. (I found this to be more stable than their own interface)
So the tilt is transmitting the logs to the Raspberry pi via Bluetooth, then PI is sending the logs to google sheets. All modifications and calibration I make via local IP address.
If you use the raspberry for other applications or projects, then you will need a dedicated SD card (8gb is fine) for the tilt OS
