Double mashing and No. sparging.

Then my Brew No. 100 finished, it was a clone of "Denny Conn's Bourbon Vanilla Imperial Porter". It was double mashing and without sparge, I spent about 9 kg malt which was then split in two, added 4.5 kg malt at 40c, claiming to 67c in 75min. and ended at 78c. in 15min and then I cooled down to 40c and started over with 4,5 kg malt. I usually have one efficiency of 72% but this time it was only 61% after the first mashing matched the numbers after the recipe so it is another mashing that I lose some %. The brew day was extended for a few hours but it is not the last time I brew this way.

At the end of the first mash do you add water to bring the level back up to the original volume?

Hi Lac,

Good experience with double mash & no sparge? Mash efficiency what about? Grain mill gap, how much?
How do you cool the wort between the mashes? Cool water, how much? 1L per Kg of grain?

The way to do it is okay, you extend brew day with a few hours.

Mash efficiency what about?

Was approximately 78.9 %.

Grain mill gap, how much?

I use 1.27 mm

How do you cool the wort between the mashes? Cool water, how much?

I used my herb cooler to cool down.
