I broke my pump impeller

Unread postby Dicko » Sun Dec 21, 2014 12:55 am

Hi BM ers,

Things like this always happen at the worst times.

Just before the holiday time I was cleaning my BM and I dropped the impeller on the concrete floor and it has broken a vane off.  :(

Have any other owners done this and if so can you still use the pump for brewing?....I don't think I can get another impeller before Xmas :x

Oh no! Have not done anything similar, but I would think that would throw the balance off. Maybe you can try running with just water to see how the pump sounds?

Spewin mate - That's gotta hurt.
Give me a buzz and discuss your intended brew schedule - you could borrow mine when I'm not brewing.
I've got a brew planned this Tuesday, then another probably the following Tuesday. Any time in between will be fine (and after). Even tomorrow would be fine as I will be coming into town early and leaving late

Auch! I would try it as it will be off balance. But you're lucky to have Batz nearby. All in the spirit of Christmas ;)

Anyways, I hope you can get your hands on a replacement easily. It might hurt if they have to ship it all the way from Germany.

I think I would try to make a repair using JB Weld. It's a two part epoxy good for high temps with engine manifold, etc repairs.. and many other things. It is non-toxic when cured. Get a good bond to the impeller and get something like a Dremel tool to carve the shape once set. I don't know what the impeller is made from.. but JB seems to stick to many materials.

Hi Dan,

That is very kind of you mate, I can't brew today (monday) but I will give you a call later this morning.
I will ring after 9.00 am as I have a doctors appointment at 8.30.

I have since filled the BM with 15 litres of water and turned the pump on and it seems to work without any problem and it appears not to have lost any pressure and there is no unusual noises coming from it.

I do note your comment Niels and I am sure it will be out of balance. :( and that is my concern.

I googled buying a new impeller and More Beer have them in stock in the USA, they are $54 US and there would be freight on that as well.
I will give Ross a call at Craftbrewer later today to see what he can do....

I broke my pump impeller

There is another big Aussie dealer of the Braumeister, isn't it? Something with "grain" in the name, if I recall corectly.

They might have a damged or returned unit which they can take the impeller off, so that you are helped quickly.

If you have to order it in the US, let me know. I will try to get you the EU price + shipping. Which might be a bit cheaper.

Thank you Niels, I will let you know if I can't get one in Australia.

Grain and Grape is the supplier you are thinking of.
I will check there web site shortly.

Guys,

Here is a pic of my pump...it has no reference to ITT that I can see on it, so I will wait until G & G open at 10.30 and give them a call.

Does anyone have a pump with the reference ITT on it?
