Sods Law or What

Unread postby Sportyone » Tue Jul 22, 2014 11:00 am

Hi guys, just thought I would post this info in case it happens to you!

After buying my Bm50 a few months ago, I finally got round to prepping for my first brew.
Started with the cleaning procedure on the BM, everything going fine until there was a power cut in town, once power had been restored the BM display started showing weird messages which I didn't understand. Couldn't even restore my language setting, default settings weren't even appearing. So that was the end of my inaugaural brew :(
Rang Ralf from Speidel, he asked me to send pics of display, which I duly emailed, both he and engineer totally baffled as it didn't respond as it should have after power outage. The engineer suspects power surge on power restoration, so to cut it short my control unit is now awaiting collection from Speidel for further investigation.
Will let you know the outcome of their investigations.

Surge protector maybe an idea for future use.

Auch, that sucks, man! I don't know about Northern Ireland, but here in Belgium we rarely have power outages. I can't even remember when the last time this happened to me.

I do use a extension cord with a fuse on it, but I'm not sure if it protects my BM from power surges. I'm planning on having a dedicated fuse box in my future brew room, but your post does make me think about installing a surge protector in it too...

I hope you'll get your control box back shortly!

Surges/spikes, etc are too fast for a fuse. Fuses are mostly designed for shorts.
