Leaking Corny keg posts

Unread postby grooves » Wed Apr 18, 2018 11:49 am

One of my kegs is leaking on both the gas in and beer out posts - but only when the QDs are connected.

The O-rings on the outside of the posts look good - and I'm pretty sure I replaced them last summer. Could it be a problem with the poppets? am I going to have to disassemble the keg? any tips?!

Is it at the top of the poppet or around the threads? Have you replaced the inner o-rings? I have fewer poppets fail than o-rings.

It is leaking out of the bottom of the quick disconnects when they are attached. This doesn't happen on other kegs when the same QDs are used. This made me suspect the outer O-ring, but they look ok to me. I haven't checked the inner O-rings.

I think I'll have to rebuild both posts - but I have to finish the keg first ;-)

Missed the part about only when QDs connected. That does sound like outer o-rings.

yep - I took them off for a closer look and they were knackered. Now they're replaced everything is all good again.

I had a couple of o-ring kits I bought a while back from a home brew shop, but I found this online -

Post o-ring ($2.15 for 100):

Dip tube o-ring ($1.96 for 100):
http://www.mcmaster.com/#9452k172/

Lid o-ring ($12.69 for 10):
http://www.mcmaster.com/#9452k218/

so I'll buy direct in the future.

I buy in bulk from McMaster as well. I purchased green for gas so I never have to figure out which is which in dim kegerator. Have red on beer side, but that isn't really needed.

I got both from ebay.co.uk -

Black: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Imperial-Bla ... -8-Up-To-2 - You want 7/16" + 3/32"

Green: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/270pc-Hot-Ne ... O-ring-Set - you have to buy a whole set - but there are 15 that fit the posts

What a great deal! I have just ordered a bag of each. Thanks for the links.

This was the response to my order unfortunately;

Thank you for considering McMaster-Carr for your purchase, but we have cancelled your order for O-rings.

Due to the cost of complying with extensive US export regulations, McMaster-Carr accepts international purchases only from our established international customers.
