First brew on BM - lots of issues!

Unread postby Steve Barker » Mon Mar 19, 2018 4:46 am

Morning all,

Brewed on the BM 20L for the first time yesterday and had a few issues (I was brewing in manual mode btw):

1) Kept getting a 'Temp Error'? Couldn't walk away from the BM cause it was making me so paranoid that it was going to error. Happened maybe 15 times?
2) Pump just didn't feel like it was mashing enough? I've seen another BM and mine looked weak compared to it. I missed my OG by 0.013 which I wasn't impressed about. Left the mash on for 75 mins as well?

Your thoughts please everyone?

Was going to have another go today and if it don't improve then it's going back......

Steve.

Hello and welcome.

My first brew was a nightmare many years ago. I know how you feel. Stick with it - it's a great tool.

It sounds like you might have a pump issue, tip the unit upside down and undo the pump. There is a series of holes in the magnetic imoeller. Check the is not blockages. Then I would do a water only run to see what's going on.

Search for "fast beer" if might be with a read.

Is the BM new or preowned? If new who was the supplier?

Cool, I'll have a look shortly. New BM sourced in UK. Vigo I think?

Any idea on the temp error?

are you using manual mode? Is the pump on and working when heating? If not that could be the problem, see -

Yes, using manual mode. Pump is on when heating.

I'm now on my second brew and so far so good, not one temp control error. I've not a clue how or why it occurred yesterday. The only think Ive changed this morning is the table it's sitting on for something a bit more sturdier after I read about vibration might effect the unit, so it could have been that?
