Day off for the braumeister - Ruige Haring Brewday

Just for the fun of it, here are some pictures from yesterday's brewday at local nanobrewery "Ruig" (means 'rough' in dutch), It's a one man operation, he has a big blichmann 3v homebrew setup and is legal to sell beer out of this little industrial space. We went with a classic C-hop double IPA fermented with brett trois (also known more recently as sacc trois) which gives big pineapple, passionfruit, bubblegum flavors and attenuates really well. Single infusion mash, filled to the absolute brim, and then a bit over the brim, hybrid batch/fly sparge. Two consecutive/overlapping 200L brews, a huge amount of wort lost to the hops, and a mere 320L into the big speidel fermenter. A fun if long brewday. It had me dreaming about a BM200, putting my feet up rather than trying to get the wort not to scorch when the mash temp dropped too low and we had to fire the burner.
Assuming the beer comes out to our standards, we will be serving it at festivals and selling a bit at shops here and in amsterdam, so if you see 'Ruige Haring' (Collaboration Ruig / Kromme Haring), that's the stuff. Although 320L is not very much. Anyways I'll post info if it goes in the shops.

What a rough looking brewday :D

Brilliant way to spend time, I'd love to try some of these artisanal beers from such a small brewery's, there must be such variation in final products just like homebrewing that each beer would be unique even if the intention was to repeat it !
To brew or not to brew, that would be a stupid question !

I like the amount of hop bags. You really have to take their volume into account when planning a brew :)

I like the temperature gauge and the volume indicator on your 525l tanks. Is that custom or did you get it from Speidel?

AFAIK the volume indicator is not standard on the Speidel tanks. Speidel does provide this as an option but I don't know if these in the picture are from Speidel.

Looks great - and very manual! ;)

So just how much raw materials went into this brew (malt/hops)?

And both 200 L batches were added to the same fermenter, I suppose?

yes, both went into that 525L fermenter. it is now bubbling away like mad! the idea is that we will serve our half of this at the utrecht bierbrouwer's festival; 9 may, at the houtzaagmolen de ster (working old school saw windmill- very cool to see it in action), walking distance from utrecht centraal. it's a fun festival, especially when the weather cooperates. we plan to bottle some, and i will post details of where the bottles end up. unless it tastes like bottoms, then i'll pretend the whole thing never happened.

How is it with the beer? already bottled?

How did you filtered the mash? How much KW is this burner to boil 200l?
