Self made thermal sleeve for my BM20

Unread postby Wim » Sun Jul 08, 2018 9:34 am

Herewith an image of my self made thermal sleeve for my BM20. The temperature drops below freezing point here in the Free State (South Africa) and the sleeve assist with containing the temperature. I made it out of a backpackers sleeping mattress. Not so impressive as the Braumeister sleeve but its doing the job. :drink:

Looks pretty good, Wim. That's a pretty cheap way of doing this. I think I might do the same. If someone's got an even cheaper solution, I'm all ears!

Was it one of the camp mats with the silver side for extra insulation?

Shoehorn the oztrail mattress cost R110.00 ($8.22). That's cheap comparing to what you will pay for a Braumeister thermal sleeve.

Here is a jacket (on the left) that I made for my 50 litre using an exercise mat from Decathlon. Cost? 7€

@IPA: Great idea! Do you also use it while boiling?

And do you think that just any kind of exercise mat will do? I'm a little worried about it melting down or something when it gets to boiling temp...

It's normal exercise mat the silver side is waterproof but the side touching the BM is normal sponge. It only comes of when I start the cooling process. If you are worried that it might stick to the BM use it with the waterproof side on the inside.

Camp mats are fine, I previously used them on my 3v.
Right or wrong I use them silver side out. It's washable.

Never had foam burn on. I have a lid insulator cut from the cheapest packing foam - the white stuff you get with electronic stuff. (not polystyrene).
It's OK too.

You can buy bungee by the meter. Put a toggle on one end and a loop in the other. It makes them easily removable.

Off for cooling - I never have. One of my reasons for using these is safety/protection.
