50l with Tri Clamp/Inline Oxygen/Whirpool/Chugger Pump

Unread postby Joar » Thu Jun 04, 2015 8:36 pm

Just did a test assembly of my new Braumeister tri clamp setup. It is now fitted with a butterfly valve, sight glass, inline oxygen and a Chugger Pump
The Chugger pump will be used to transfer wort back to Braumeister for a whirlpool during chilling, and to transfer wort to my chronical when ready.

Now that is real beer porn.

On a serious note, I would be a little concerned over the weight of that "porn" hanging on the nipple that is welded into the side of the BM.
The thickness of the material of the kettle is very thin in relation to some other kettles....would it be a good idea to bolt the BM to the bench and then support the "porn" with a bracket that secures the unit to the kettle and to the bench?

Only my thoughts.....well done!!

Wow that looks really great. But I share Dicko's concern regarding the weight.

Fair play, mate. :beerbang: I like the inline O2 idea. How many litres/minute you pumping for the whirlpool? On my 20L, I've been playing with a 12v food safe solar pump (11L/min), which seems to create a nice whirlpool. How are you securing the tubing inside the BM?

Thanks. Regarding weight consern it's no problem since all the weight rest on top of the pump.
Hasn't had opportunity to test yet so I don't know liter/min but should be more than enough.

I was thinking the pump was bolted to the stand - great work and I'm keen to learn more about those sexy stainless oxygenators!!

The pump is placed in a bracket, so it easily removed. https://www.morebeer.com/products/pump- ... nless.html

Parts for inline oxygen is as follows,
- 26" Diffusion Stone from Morebeer, https://www.morebeer.com/products/diffu ... -long.html
- Tri clamp Tee and Sightglass from Aliexpress (19mm ID)
- 1/2" OD Tri Clamp Ferrule used on top of Tee. http://www.ebay.com/itm/OD-1-2-Ferrule- ... 1347345068

I like it, thats an impressive addition to the BM.

What is your cooling system for post boil - Immersion Chiller or external CFC/Plate chiller ?

Havn't measured liter/min yet, but here is a short video of pump running at full flow: https://youtu.be/o0YHo3M4BeM
I also have a tri clamp ball valve that I will add to outlet of pump to controll flow amount.

For cooling i'm currently using immersion chiller.

Adding oxygen before the pump . . . While the head of liquid in the BM will help to keep the pump drawing initially, Chuggers are not designed to 'suck' and you may well find that it' just stops flowing especially once you get loads of foam in the line, with O2 flowing back up the tube into the BM . . . I've seen it on /my 3V boiler :(

Aerate after the pump no issue . . . Just a thought, as it is a damn fine addition to any kit . . .BM or otherwise

Good point Aleman. I havn't test oxygen yet, but my intial thought was since I was going to use quite low flow on oxygen this shouldn't be a problem.
But if it turns out to be I have to move oxygen to after pump

At least with Tri Clamps it's easy to reconfigure if you have to
