Anyone knows him/her?

Unread postby Sladek789 » Thu Dec 06, 2018 1:47 pm

Hello everyone,

In my quest to know if reversing the flow on the BM would make any sense, I found some very interesting videos on youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCLmMKL ... B9BRkDobvg
But I cannot find a way to contact the guy on Youtube or on another forum where he may appear (I cannot not find him anywhere else).

So I throw a bottle at the sea here, does anyone knows him? He might be one of your BM buddies or even one of you! If yes and if you beleive that he would be willing to reply to some of my questions, could you share his email address (or another digital way to contact him) with me via private message.

Thanks.

PS: I plan to brew 2 exact same beers in Jan and Feb, one with the normal flow and one with reverse flow (disassembling and then reversing the pumps), just to experiement and shall report back anyway.

I dont know him but ive thought about the same thing and it will be interesting to hear your results. The thing that kept me from reversing the flow is the risk of compacting the grains and reducing the flow but i guess if you stir occasionally like he was doing it may work.

Why bother ? The BM works just fine as it is.

Exact same thought here.

Perfect, thanks!
EDIT, actually it seems to be a different user than the above one, but on the same forum: Basje42 - https://www.hobbybrouwen.nl/forum/index ... 18613.1450

Is there a perceived gain? And I get the passionately curious bit, really I do.
But I personally tend to try things that get me somewhere.

And just why would you want to stand there and stir it?

Thinking out loud.....
If you're pumping from the bottom There is a cavity that the pump pressurises and that wort, then passes through the mash.

If you are pumping over the top, invariably your BM is not 100% level. So there is (in my head) a very good chance of uneven distribution of the wort passing through. The lowest edge of the malt pipe is going to see all the action.

I know I sometimes have a pop at Speidel - but I think this is something they will have tried & discounted. If it works it would be a lot easier and cheaper to manufacture because this less parts.

Camurri .. Just stirs ... Hmm

I got a reply from the guy on the Dutch forum who experimented with reverse BM flow (from top to bottom). Not great English but totally clear.
The guy on the Dutch forum wrote:It doesn t work at all.
The volume of the malt basket filled with malt ! is much smaller then the volume of the outside part.
So there's a problem with a complete worth fill on the outside.
The difference in volume is too big. You have too less water inside/the malt basket should be bigger.
I reversed the pump very quick to its original state.

No need to try and fail then. But at least I know why not and with real facts.... topic closed :D
