Cleaning mesh disks

Unread postby mashy » Tue Oct 30, 2018 1:17 pm

Yesterday I made an accidental discovery.

Using a shower spray or any water kind of jet on a hose there is a very easy way to clean them in the bottom of the sink.

Put a disc in the bottom of a sink. Put the mesh on it - just like it wold be installed in the bottom of the malt tube.

Using the jet of water, hold it low and acutely to the outside. The mesh will spin quickly washing and flicking off any debris.

Sanitize as you would normally.

I know, I know - you have all been doing this for years :D

I brew in the garage so when using the immersion chiller I open the garage door, connect the garden hose gun to the end of the outlet hose and spray the filters etc. using high pressure hot water.

I use the plate the other way round to avoid the centre ferrule for a complete sweep. Holding the screen and plate together with one thumb to brush the grains off AND give the mesh a good scrub to rid it of sugars that water pressure alone won't get rid off (efficiently anyway). Then a bit of hosing as per Mashy's 'Spinning mesh wheel'. Saves me a bit of water, and that's important my neck of the woods (Sydney)!
