[WANTED] V1 Controller for BM 20L

Unread postby cyberbackpacker » Tue Feb 12, 2019 2:41 pm

I bought a used BM 20L V1 with a non-functioning controller. I am hoping someone maybe upgraded to the V2 wifi controller and has their old one for sale.

Located in the USA but willing to pay to have it shipped.

Thanks in advance!

Kevin.

Wow. Great project. You have bought the best kettle.
Consider an ALVA controller they make a good upgrade/replacement.
Longer leads also give you more room.
While you wait, install the lower pump tap.
Loads of fun. Let us know how you get on. You will find loads of info here. After you brewing already?

I'm sure Speidel will repair it.

Thanks @mashy.

I've been brewing for about a dozen years- stove top all grain, stove top/cooler all grain, custom built BCS-460(2) rigs... But, I've wanted a BM since they first came out, but cost was too prohibitive. Found this advertised locally and got it for a steal-- literally too good a price to pass up.

I definitely saw your lower pump outlet mod and I actually went to Menards this morning already to get the parts! They had no stainless however, and to do it all in copper was going to be ~$30. So I am holding off for now.

Thanks!

Bugger. That is sad news.

Better news is the older controllers are component based, so are probably fixable.

Bit the bullet today, new controller and a malt pipe seal weighed in at £289 including postage. Prices in pubs these days that is only half a dozen visits to a pub so its still good value.

What was up with the old controller? Is it for sale for spares/repair?

We are thinking the same thing. Fit a lower pump tap eh!

If you need some fabrication - nice ss frame, shout up, I know just the chap. Reasonable too.

Thank you my friend I shall, my aim is to mimic the BM ase closely as possible with just a few refinements as in a built in springer filter and hop spider. My thoughts were to have the brewing vessel connected via john guest pipes to the pump, cooler etc which would be fixed to the stand/support incorparating a small block and tackle to lift the malt pipe. I hope to get the brewing vessel on a tilting hinge so I can steam clean it and all the shi*e can run freely away. Just planning it out at the moment, cant build it till Im on holiday in June plus I can buy a few bits each month so the Boss does not notice the cost too much. When I do a proper drawing I will post it so you can spot any glaring mistakes which Im bound to make. And any input to alter it would be warmy received.

I also have some ideas for a "rotate away" extraction head. Keep in touch.
