I asked Grain and Grape here in Australia if they had an expected price of the new controller.

We're not too sure of the price at this stage, they will be available as a separate purchase around March and then we will be able to give you more information

Looks like we will just have to wait.

I also asked when I picked up my short malt pipe. Was told 100 - 200 for change over.

Take that with a grain of salt, the young lad serving me was a bit unsure.

I don't think anyone knows the price yet... As Batz said we just have to wait and see!

His reasoning behind the price was that the new braumeister was going to cost 100 bucks more, hence 100 to change over the controller.

I factored in another 100 for stuffing around.

To me this seems resonable as long as speidel wants to look after their loyal customers. Im sure they dont want their users buying the new controllers and the old controllers being sold off to others trying to build a clone.

UK stockist said the new units are due sometime in January and would be approx £100 more than the previous model.

The list prices (inc. 19% VAT) from Speidel are:
  • 10 l: 1250 EUR
  • 20 l: 1570 EUR (vs. 1487.50 EUR currenlty)
  • 50 l: 2250 EUR (vs. 2153.90 EUR currenlty)
I got word from Ralf that I'll probably get the BM10 prototype by Christmas. I can't wait ;)

I seriously hope that "client software" means OS independent web interface.
I make my own copper/ss chillers (immersion) - 20l & 50l and counterflow (cfc)

I just got word from Ralf... The BM10 demo unit will be shipping tomorrow. That means it will be here before the weekend and I can make me some beer :p

Stay tuned for some impressions.

Very cool news! The 10L model is interesting. I was thinking of getting an upgrade from my 20 to the 50. This new version will be worth waiting for.
New 20L user.
No experience only 5 batches so far.
as of 15 apr 2014 Now 11 batches.
As of aug 2014 26 batches. I just love this machine!
Sep 2015 now over 100 batches.

I'm actually considering downgrading from a 50L to a 10L :) It seems that I don't have that much time to brew after all and the 10L might be ideal to pump out a crate every two weeks. I hope it is small enough it can sit in the kitchen on Saturday while I be a good husband and father.

I'll keep my 50L for now, but I might as well put it up for sale in the coming months. It all depends on the experience I get with the 10L over the next few weeks.

I would have thought that the 50L would be the timesaver: 1 brewday = 40-50L beer = 4 or 5 brewdays with a 10L !?!
To brew or not to brew, that would be a stupid question !

I expect that the ramp times are going to be quite short!
I wasn't planning on going for a run today but those cops came from nowhere!

Downsides of the BM50 at the moment:
  • Since I don't have a dedicated brew space (yet), I have to brew either outside or in the cellar. This makes a brewday less practical (carrying everything out/in, having to go outside/downstairs to check on the brew, ...).
  • I did only 6 brews in the last year with the BM (yes, only 6) and so the diversity of my beers is very limited.
  • I did only 23~25 L batches, but still this is too much for me to drink. Giving beer away just to get rid of it is not really cool. Especially as I have to collect all the bottles again as some people neglect to bring them back.
The main upsides for the BM10 (or at least I hope):
  • Brew in the kitchen. Easy to check upon when playing with the children, preparing food, making love to my girlfriend, ...
  • Clean up can hopefully be done in the kitchen sink.
  • More, but smaller batches. More brewing experience and more variety of beers in my cellar.
