I was a bit annoyed to see this today because I was told that the wifi functionality was included in the Braumeister but it seems that it's not.

This is what Ralf from Speidel wrote when I emailed him.

The WiFi connection will be available at the end of May.

The connecting socket at the controller is already existing.

What you need in addition is the rooter as an extra small box.

The price for this is not clear now.

Can't help but feel a little disappointed.

Yes... thats disappointing!!! all the info I have seen here and elsewhere clearly indicates it's all built in and just needs activating.

A report from another user saying a serial type port on the rear was strange I thought but now all becomes clear that it's going to be an accessory port and probably a damn expensive one. Plus.... It would be a logistical nightmare for Spiedel to send a part to activate the WiFi for free as they must have sent hundreds of 'New' BM's out so it's now going to be a cost option..

That has really taken the pleasure out of owning a new BM ...which I'm waiting to have shipped to me.
Feeling well pi$$ed now and not alcohol induced.

I bought mine on the basis that this was included so I feel like I've paid for it but not getting it.

Yes this is a very disappointing confirmation :(

The more info that has been coming out about this function, the more it was looking like this would be the case, but I was holding any comments back until something more than speculation came out from Speidel. I must admit, the retailer I bought mine off made it clear that he thought [unconfirmed] that the wifi functionality would come in the form of a purchasable accessory. Everything I'd read said that it would be something already built in, so I thought it was a fair punt to hope he was wrong.

Aside from the disappointment of having to fork out more money  which I can't complain about too much, because I was told. I think the most disappointing news to come out of this is that the rooter (sic) will be an "extra small box". I truly hope this is something Speidel have designed to be a) powered by the main controller, and b) small enough to be housed within space under the unit itself. I'd be really miffed if I had to sit another electronic device on the counter next to my BM, and even worse if I had to connect external power like a normal wifi router. I thought a little USB dongle would have been a nice option.

Here's hoping we don't pay "German Engineering" price for an electronic device, because last I checked, the Chinese are quite the leaders in manufacturing electronics. As is the case for other Speidel accessories, I fear this will be a very expensive addition... I hope Speidel reads this and proves me wrong

I've just contacted Ralf with a few questions (e.g. regarding the WiFi) and knowing him I will have an answer pretty soon.

I'll keep you posted!

I'm glad I did not spend money upgrading my 'old' controller now!

I'd bet money that it will be powered by the BM itself, but placing a WiFi device under a braumeister would render the range next to useless...

Good point. I suppose placement of the antenna will be key, but then my suggestion of a little USB dongle would probably not work. I still hope the clever designers at Speidel come up with something nice and neat. All things considered, I suppose we could still see a little bit of German engineering play a part

Anyway, I'll be back in my box if anyone needs me... best to wait until Neils comes back with some news, and failing that, May is just around the corner anyway.

I would have thought that putting a wireless device on a long lead would enable good signals and remove the chance of damage by spilled wort etc. not exactly compact or elegant and a little less 'wireless'.
To brew or not to brew, that would be a stupid question !

I have received an answer from Ralf this morning, but I'm not at my computer at the moment.

I will post the info tomorrow evening.

I bet there is away to replace this half baked control panel with this: https://store.brewpi.com/brewpi-spark
I make my own copper/ss chillers (immersion) - 20l & 50l and counterflow (cfc)

I actually rather like my "half baked" control panel and don't really see a need for wi-fi. I like to physically check on my brew from time to time to check for wort fountains if nothing else. ;-)
