WTF?

Any discussion about non-specific Braumeister brewing techniques can be discussed here. E.g. "How to make a starter?", "What's the best way to store my grains?", "Which pH meter do you recommend?", ...

WTF?

I just brewed a Pale Ale and used Irish Moss for the first time (instead of Whirlflock). I ended up with weird stuff in the bottom of the kettle, even though I used a hop sieve.
Looks like a hybrid of sago pudding and gelatine.
Does anyone know what this is?

that's your irish moss... i have to say mine has never turned quite as clumpy as that, but it goes translucent and weird.

@royco
From your records: what was Irish Moss:wort ratio?
Es ist zwar ein sehr gutes Bier, die Goslarische Gose; doch wenn man meint, sie sey im Bauch, so liegt sie in der Hose.

There is a well known craft brewery a few miles from where I live. Lagunitas. They have a beer called "Wilco Tango Foxtrot" WTF? There is a small writeup on their website about this beer. Here: http://lagunitas.com/beers/wilco-tango-foxtrot/

Lagunitas is well known as a brewery that goes a bit against the grain of the government's alcohol board. Did you know they have to approve EVERY LABEL that goes on a beer style? They get a lot of labels rejected by this bureaucratic tax pit because it might be inappropriate or whatever. WTF?

Yep. The story goes (despite what it says on the above web page, that the first label submitted was simply "WTF" with all the other required info on it. REJECT! Inappropriate. The second label was "Whisky Tango Foxtrot" but they couldn't do that because it contained the word "Whisky" .. a no-no on beer. So, ultimately it became "Wilco Tango Foxtrot". But, do go to the website and see something about one of our local breweries.
