How do you purge CO2 with a G-type Coupler?

How do you purge CO2 with a G-type Coupler?

Unread postby royco » Sat Oct 25, 2014 12:22 pm

I recently purchased two 20L kegs, similar to Corney but with G-Type (Micromatic) couplers. After adding CO2 to the empty kegs they were filled with ale. Then I realised it is not as easy as with Corneys to simply pull the safety valve to purge a few times. I searched and found that with a Sankey you can put a small coin in the gas coupler, but this doesn't seem possible with a G-Type.
I did it the tedious way, by uncoupling and pushing down on the rubber seal then re-gassing 4 times.

Is there an easy way?

Have you tried removing the gas side check valve?

That, combined with adding a tee in the gas line with a purge valve, seems like the easy way.

What coupler have you got ? Are you sure there isn't one on the side.

Thanks squadricus, that is an idea. Mine is a Micromatic without the bleed-off valve on the side. It is not generally required and up to now I have removed the coupler and depressed the rubber seal on the keg, but that is tedious.

FIt a T piece on the gas line with a small valve. All available push fit. Then you can turn the cylinder off and vent with the new valve.
