No dispute with that method, it's well proven and I've used it myself.
We veered off to the pros and cons of freezing yeast.
I guess coming from a background in microbiology I'm comfortable with culturing on solid media.
I prefer it because I can grow a starter from a single colony so there is no issue with contamination, colonies are stable and storage is compact.
They do require regular subbing but it's worth it for the upsides.
