Hello,

Just sharing something I enjoyed reading

I'm new to brewing so doing a fair bit of reading/ googling etc and besides the 'standard' stuff like Palmer's, I bumped into this Almanac. (Actually also discovered the Scribd page.. - it has 30 days free trial and you can save it as pdf.. :) What I liked about it is the first 40 pages or so that has simple and easy to understand detail of all the terms and formulas and detailing things like relationships between mash temperatures and enzyme activities or list that shows the average AA values that brewers can expect from different hops varieties etc..

For sure there are tons of other sources - and If you new to this as I am - give it a go, see If you like it as I did.

Is there a way to get it without entering your credit card details?

Wouldn't for a moment want to encourage anyone to break any copyright laws, and no idea if this does or not, but the publication in question is openly available on the internet here with no signup required. Just click on 'Get" at the top of the page. It will automatically download to your usual folder/desktop or to wherever your downloads are normally directed.

Good work - good read.

I have to say continental malts for an English ale seemed odd to me. Ditto hops.
I do think the sponsors should have been a bit bigger than that, and recorded ingredients more accurately 'cos for me this undermines the technical content. It moves the document more towards a clever bit of sales blurb!

According to the Ultimate Almanac of World Beer Recipes - everything needs Barth-Haas Hops and Weyermann malt. Not authentic and not accurate.

Don't get me wrong this is still a good read, but for "new to brewing readers" could be mislead....

Call me cynical but......... could it possibly be because Weyermann are sponsors of the document! :beerbang:

Good point about the sponsors - I have to say I did not really get to the details of the recipes and just read the opening part that I'm finding inspiring.
