Pump Cleaning

Unread postby brugen » Tue Jan 09, 2018 9:05 pm

Getting on in years I've found lifting 23l about a bit of an effort so I've decided to let physics take the strain.

I've bought a TS5 Mini Mag Pump https://www.brewbuilder.co.uk/ts5-mini-mag-pump.html to lift the wort from the BM to the fermenter and from the fermenter to the bottling bucket. A great bi product of this approach is that I can move to 60l fermenters doubling my output.

Can anyone advise me on pump cleaning. The pump rotor looks accessible through 4 screws. Should I take this out every time or just give it a run through with hot water after use and Star San before use?

Thanks

Circulate some hot PBW (or other cleaner) though the pump at the same time as cleaning the BM and the internal pump, then run through a water rinse.

I've been using a pump to the FV for my last few brews, saves a bit of time over gravity.

I am with you on pumps. I have several for different jobs.

I would wash it through with a couple of batches of fresh water.

This is the age old question of how clean is clean.

Run PBW through the pump then let it sit for 30 minutes and repeat.
Flush with hot water and store dry.

I recirculate hot wort for a few minutes before transfer too.
