Cross-channel Homebrewers Gathering - 24 May (Canterbury)

Unread postby Elderberry » Tue Jan 27, 2015 8:14 am

Details are still forming, but there will be an international gathering of homebrewers/mini competition thing happening at the farmers market (http://thegoodsshed.co.uk/) in Canterbury, England on May 24th. If you've never been there, Canterbury is lovely and easy to get to from the Channel Tunnel if you're coming from the continent. Let me know if you're interested and I'll put you in the plans. Updates will be posted here.

An early-to-bed kind of guy, huh? I can totally appreciate that.

We went with the 24th because Monday the 25th is a holiday in some places, like Belgium. It looks like it's a bank holiday in England as well. Anyway, the time has yet to be determined. If you want to go and have a preference, that might add weight. Let me know.

I'd happily stay later, but it's long walk back

It's a bit early to commit definitely, if worse comes to the worse I'll just get to Canterbury in the afternoon and enjoy some of the attractions... such as The Foundry, before buggering off early.

You can take the first train in the morning ;)

I'll probably arrive on Saturday and go back home on Monday. I hope to catch some UK beautiful scenery and score some points with the lady for taking her out of the house.

I'm still trying to dig up details, but this is definitely happening. At this point it's safe to say it's going to be very informal. The idea was that it's a chance to get your beers evaluated by pro brewers and share your beers with fellow homebrewers from lands afar, with at least a "best in show" award.

The certainties:
When: May 24 at 17:00
Where: The Goods Shed, Canterbury, UK (http://thegoodsshed.co.uk/)
Who: Niels and I
What: Beer (I'll be bringing 3 different brews)

I'm looking forward to the event this weekend as well as checking out the Foundry and hopefully at least one of the Kentish micropubs.

Unfortunately, it sounds like Niels won't be able to make it due to extenuating circumstances.

Oz, will you still be making an appearance?

There should be beers from me, possibly Niels and one other Belgian homebrewer, who may or may not be there in person. I believe the UK will be represented by around 4 homebrewers. The idea now is for each "side" to present 4 beers for judging. There will be a prize. Personally, I don't give a damn about the competition part. I just like swapping brews and still plan to bring some for sharing.

As usual events may be conspiring against me. It is sister-in-law's birthday on the same day so may have family commitments that clash.
