Belgian F1 GP - Beer around Spa?

Unread postby tmzand » Fri Jan 09, 2015 11:02 am

Will be staying in Spa a few days for the F1 in august.
While not primarily a beer trip, I think watching F1 and beer do have a special relationship

I've never been to Spa but it seems the small town is more about racing and, well, spa's... Not really being the beer capital of Belgium. Still there has to be some decent pub's right?
I found Brasserie de Bellevue in Malady at beermapping.com, which is probably worth a visit. Brewery tour and sampling afternoons on weekends (I think, although the language is not English nor Swedish).

Yeah, I know it's a long time until the trip, but I just booked and am a bit over exited I guess.

Any tips would be very welcome!

Thanks
/Thomas

the center is quite small, and to be honest in my one day there the charm never found me, as was full of noisy cars everywhere, a big traffic jam needlessly stuffed into the narrow streets of a small town. but there was a tiny and nice craft beer bottle shop right in the center, selling a few better known belgian beers and a few unheard of local ones, and a scattered few from foreign lands. i grabbed as many local brews as i could carry, all of the names are long forgotten even though it was only last summer, and enjoyed them all in the tranquility of the hoge venen.
i think it's on the main drag of the rue royale near rue leopold but i might be way off... very near the ornate big casino(?) building, on a street with very popular outdoor seating for the brasseries and cafes. Many of the towns around there seem to have a small brewery making a blond/tripel and a bruin, for the local market, you won't have to resort to leffe.

Are you coming by car? If so, I can look up some places you can go to...

Dinnerstick, thanks man good info. There were two bottle-shops wall to wall listed on ratebeer.com, maybe yours is one of them. Will have to stop by and fill the boot of the rental car on the way to the B&B (not too far off though, about 1km from where we're staying).

Niels, yes coming in from the north east (Düsseldorf) by car. Not too many straight shots to choose from going from Stockholm but it seemed like a reasonable alternative to flying in to like Brussels, Lux or Frankfurt. I sure hope I didn't get it wrong :)
Anyway, car it is!

Thanks guys, this forum has a really friendly atmosphere, I like it!
