Kellermeister airlock fonction question ?

Unread postby Garage12 » Sat Feb 11, 2017 2:39 pm

Hello there ! I just got my new Speidel Kellermeister fermentor. I just want to know if I just use the top cover as an airlock or I have to put some Starsan in the lid as a barrier ? That would be my pick but just want opinions.

Have you seen the Video on Speidels Facebook page? They fill some liquid in the groove on top of the Kellermeister.

You guys hate Vodka? :D
'Cause water is enough to do the trick, sure, it will work with champagne as well, but why?

Starsan solution is safe too.
A small about of dilute Starsan is safe in beer.

Negative pressure in your FV, liquid in your airlock may get sucked in to your brew.

TBH I don't airlock beer anymore. If it is a close fit leave it dry.

I use a wide mouth fermenter and "just crack" the screw up lid.

Thanks for the replys but I have found my awnser since then... I figured Starsan would be good. I also can see bubbles to confirm that I have fermentation going on and I can feel the cover ''floating''. Usually once fermentation is done I cant ''spin'' the cover anymore. It sinks in the Starsan.

I guess I will try Vodka tonight lol

The Vodka is for you, the Starsan is for the airlock.

Second for vodka. I get a big bottle of cheap vodka and lasts me forever. Starsan you have to worry about concentration and all kinds of other factors. Vodka you just pour and leaves no ill effects to beer if sucked into fermenter.
