The Gärmeister

Unread postby niels » Tue Nov 17, 2015 12:32 pm

Speidel showed off a prototype of their Gärmeister during Braubeviale last week. It's similar to the BrewJacket temperature controller, but instead of 1 set temperature you'll be able to use "fermentation recipes".

I don't have a lot of information yet, but I'm looking forward to test one of those :p

For as far as I understand it will work with Peltier elements which can both heat and cool. But I'll have to get this confirmed.

Probably more expensive than a second hand fridge and STC1000+ controller.

As someone pointed out to me recently, a fridge with a stainless fermenter inside will reach an even, homogenous temperature throughout the vessel, so there are no hot or cold spots.

I wonder what the temperature differential is between the element, and the top and bottom of the wort as it ferments using the immersed cooling pipe...

if your short of space then it could offer a solution, however just looks like something else to sterilise to me, i'll stick with my brew fridge and a plastic fermenter for now :-)

And does it cool down to cold crashing/lagering temperatures? And can it cope with 30c ambient temperatures.
Many peltier based wine cooling cabinets don't do either unfortunately.

Different strokes for different folks..

Some of us do not have 30°C ambient to deal with :(

I have no doubt it is very clever, but personally I think it is hideous and probably hideously expensive as well.

I just came across this on Facebook and became very enthusiastic about this.

I currently have a fridge with ink bird temperature control (programmable in different stages). But this has some disadvantages (takes up a lot of space and is not accurate. Also is a kind of "hack" and monitoring is basic.

What I expect this to do is:
Control the temperature (both heat and cool) as accurately as the braumeister
Connect to wifi to monitor (temperature actual vs set, time)
Be compatible with my current speidel fermenters (the standard big airlock)

If they also can release a small conical fermenter that is compatible with this it would be even more better. Will save me a lot of space and will increase quality. Also would make a Brite tank less necessary (dump yeast along the way). The kellermeister does not use the standard speidel airlock.

And please connect this to a web environment where I can easily create recepies and distribute them into my braumeister and gärmeister.
