Braumeister 10L Beersmith profile

Unread postby pedrocalazans » Fri Mar 20, 2015 7:48 pm

Hi All,

I just ordered a Braumeister 10L that should be arrive in Brazil by April 10th, and was wondering if anyone would have a Beersmith equipment profile for the 10L?

I´m REALLY new to real brewing (i´ve only used extract kits before) so I´m trying to be as ready as possible for when my BM arrive!

Cheers,
Pedro

Hi Pedro,

There are not much BM10 units out there yet and as I'm not using Beersmith I can't help you out with a ready-to-use profile.

You can start setting up a profile using some key figures that might help you dial in the numbers:
  • Mash efficiency: 78%
  • Grain absorbtion: 0.7 L/kg
  • Boil off: 2 L/hour

Of course, you should get a few brews under your belt to find out if these numbers are correct. I'm currently in that process :)

Another 10ltr owner here so will add my findings to this thread once i got a few more under my belt.

I would brew every week now if i had the room to ferment it all.The 10ltr is perfect for my consumption and space constraints im glad spiedel made this unit.

Do you think if this will also be usable for the 10L mash tun in the 20L model?

Same here, but for the 20L model :) I calculated it through, but i need much much more temp-controlled space for fermenting :(

Hi Niels,
Thanks for the tips.

Do you think that the attached profile is a good starting point?

And, since I´m still trying to figure out how to adapt recipes from bigger batches to the 10L BM could you share some recipes, since the Speidels website doesn´t have any (it sucks that they have recipes for every model but the 10L)...

Cheers,
Pedro

I don't have a BM10, but there are a couple of notes on the profile...
1. The cooling factor is 4% - this is the volume difference from 21C (room temp) to 100C. But note that Beersmith has a volume issue. It's not a big deal, but when you miss your post boil gravity by 3 points, this is why.
2. Do a good volume calibration on your BM10 so you can measure volume with a depth gauge so you can measure pre, during and post-boil. I think you will find your boil off will probably be greater than 0.75l.hr, depends on if you use a jacket and/or dome.
3. When you do a volume calibration, you will see what your actual maximum Mash Tun Volume is. This is only needed to have Beersmith flag if you try to do a mash with greater volume needed than you have...

Ive used the 10l short pipe on the 20l (used once so far)

For what its worth, I mashed with 12l, sparged with 3l and got a batch into the fermenter of 9l.

I presume the mash loss volume would be the same but perhaps the boil off loss could be different... Maybe (bigger element, although maybe not)

Next time ill up the sparge by 1l.

Hi

I have been looking for a BS 10l Profile for Beersmith, since this thread is a couple of months old now has anyone worked out the Equipment Profile for the 10L? and also if there are any Mash Profiles brewers have developed and willing to share that would be great.

I am new to the Forum and the BS so treat me gently with your responses :D

Same here! Found the 20L profiles in the beersmith forum, but I guess we don't have many people on the 10L to help us out.

Anyone?

Braumeister 10L Beersmith profile

I would like to suggest that you share your current equipment configuration here with everyone else looking for a BM 10L BeerSmith profile. That way hopefully we can narrow down the variances and hone in on a baseline.

And if you don't know how to create a BS equipment profile I can recommend this extremely easy to understand video by brülosophy: http://brulosophy.com/2014/08/04/beersm ... ile-setup/
It's really not that difficult and should take you less than an hr.

I just came back from traveling so will be doing my own measurements soon. Watch this space for my numbers.

Great! Thanks for this... I'll try to understand how to do it, if I can!
I've emailed Braumeister to ask for help too... let's see what we can get.
