IBU anomaly in Beersmith

Unread postby royco » Fri Aug 22, 2014 8:04 am

I did an APA which turned out very well, but was slightly too bitter. After searching similar recipes it seems that this is almost identical to Dr Smurto's Golden ale and yet when I put similar hop additions (not exact) BS shows very low bittering. This is weird. Can someone explain?
PS Don't know why the pics rotated.

As Piet says: that 14.75% hop addition contributes a lot of IBUs. If I use my calculator it would add about 59.73 IBU to a 20 litres batch and 23.89 to a 50 litres batch.

Thanks Piet and Niels, well spotted! I didn't even look at the percentage as BS only offers me Cascade 5,5%. I don't know where the 14.75% number comes from -- that is potent. The Cascade I use is 5.5% so I will modify the recipe to suit.
