Datalogger for WLAN module

Do you need help setting up your favourite brewing software? Or help out other with the lessons you learned while calculating recipes for your Braumeister.

Datalogger for WLAN module

Unread postby chrigu » Mon Jan 09, 2017 4:51 pm

Hi

As I thought that the WLAN module for the Braumeister hasn't been that useful so far (it seems that this will change this year with Myspeidel.com) I built a small logger. It only logs the Braumeister's temperature and displays this in a graph. It also allows you to export the logged data as CSV.

Edit: New version online (supports v0.3)

You can find the downloads for OSX and Windows here:
https://github.com/chrigu/braukontrol/releases/tag/v0.3.0

The README https://github.com/chrigu/braukontrol/blob/master/README.md

The application is quite simple:

1. Enter the IP of your Braumeister
2. Click "Record" to start logging the temperature
3. Click "Stop" whenever you're done
4. Click "Export" to export the data as CSV. If you click "Record" again, the recorded data will be lost.

Everything is still pretty basic and not very polished. If someone thinks this is helpful I would try to improve things :)

cheers
chris

Hey

Just send me the feedback (or file a issue on Github) :)

One thing that might be a source of problems is if you have myspeidel.com open at the same time. I need to look into that, and try to fix it.

Great
Will try to get it working for my next 20L brew tomorrow and post the 'cooling down' figures of the BM20plus to give some indication

Please use this version https://github.com/chrigu/braukontrol/releases/tag/v0.2.3. This should fix an error when the logging dies after an error has occurred. Haven't test it on the real Braumeister, just on my "simulator". Will brew on the weekend so I can test it as well :D

so, here is my temperature log from today, I cooled 20 L wort with 11 degrees celsius cold water.

The big temperature drop is when I switch on the pump.

I used the BM 20 plus inbuilt cooling jacket, not a cooling coil.

Great data logging tool ... originally I wanted to log the whole session, but after ~ 50 % of hop cooking my BM mobile lost the connection to the world: no mobile, no datalogging, nothing ... but it kept running. So after hop cooking I turned it off / on again and could log data again as you see below. No idea if this is related ...

Nice temperature drop there :) I was wondering how the Plus model cooling jacket is performing. What is your experience so far?

Funny that the BM lost its connection. The logger should handle a lost connection to the BM, so it should reconnect as soon as the BM is back online. Well, I haven't tested that :) but it should survive it...

Hi, I used the cooling jacket ... I have no figures yet using a cooling coil.

I am not saying the tool lost the connection, even the BM could not connect to Wifi any more ... no idea what caused that. The Wifi itself was ok all the time as I could prove with mobile, PC etc

I've just uploaded a new release that allows you to display your BM's target temperature as well.

Any chance of adding notifications to one of the standard notification services e.g. so it can ping your phone/watch when mash temp is hit or when hop additions are coming up?

Is this not exactly what the BM module is already providing ?

No, you have to log into the web page and see manually what the timings are if not in from of the machine itself. Notifications for when you are around the house would be really useful.

I'll need to look into this as I need to check how I can send an notification to a device without providing an app. But it's a very good idea!
