BM 500L Beersmith Profile

Unread postby Fireantbrewing » Fri Dec 30, 2016 11:08 pm

We have ordered our BM 500L as searching for a Beersmith profile. We are current brewing on a 50L. I see post regarding looking for the profile from 2015 and someone had purchased the 500L but does not seem that they posted the profile that they have been using. Does anyone have a good profile for the 500L. Would really appreciate any help we can get.

Hey Fireant. Yes I have a profile for the 500.
Note that yours will be different, (due to your mill, losses in hoses, how you boil, (our boil is 75minsBTW) how much trub youre happy with etc) but mine is a starting point for you to get going.
No deadspace
50L boil off in 75mins
38L trub and chiller loss
30L fermenter loss
24L cooling loss
68% overall efficiency.

Those figures from southern highlands are very close to ours also. We 60 minute boil usually. Typically we are doing a 700l batch (700 into fermenter).

Hay SaipanBrewing,
How are you getting 700L out of the 500?
We get 550L into the tanks, with approx 115kg grain at 'normal' gravity. Are you brewing regular strength beer? How much grain are you using for 700L?

@southernhighlands,

We typically use 130kg of grain. It's possible to go a bit higher if you watch your water volumes. We then sparge until runnings are 1.008-1.010. This should give you 700+ liters at around 1.050 post boil, which we consider normal gravity. you can add water and dilute further if you're willing to get a lower gravity.

Do you have a calculator for measuring and getting your kettle volume?
