Greetings,

Yesterday was my first brew day with the BM20L, and I just received the wifi unit as well. I was sooooo tempted to do the firmware update before the first brew, but thought better of it, and everything went fine. I figured it would let me appreciate the new firmware that much more :)

I updated to 1.24c today, and there was only one issue. My Win 10 laptop never even saw the wifi module on USB, so I had to run the driver program that they include with the update. After that, Win 10 saw the wifi as a generic uart device, and everything worked perfectly after that.

I'm really glad to see the option to use F temps, which makes it easier on my old beer soaked brain  I'm hopeful the speidel.com option will be user friendly for handling recipes. I couldn't get past the registration, and send them an email to get access.

Cheers,
Rusty

I tried to do the software update but got a message that said "com 7 com 8" and something about a driver not found. Can anyone shed any light on this please? You would think it would be as easy as clicking a mouse.

The reason for the com error is you have BM connected to mains power.

From memory this is the steps...

Download the update
Do not connect BM to power
Plug USB cable into computer
Run update app
You'll get a message to connect USB to wifi unit... do that
Then you'll get a message to connect BM to mains power
Software will update
Then turn off
Unplug everything
Then power BM back up... all good

Cheers

Ok, I finally got it sorted out. I had to use the driver in the zip file as my laptop did not auto run. It works fine now. Happy brewing from my lounge chair!

Is there any way to update the software of the Braumeister without buying the wifi adapter?

Nope. You need the adapter for the USB connection.

I made a video looking at the old software version and the new beta version.

Nice video. I've done my updates but haven't had a chance to brew using the myspeidel functions yet.

There is a way to update without the wifi module from a dealer perspective, but as far as my research has gone, no one has found a way to replicate the straight usb cable to do it yet. Seems that some resellers / dealers received a usb data cable and software disc to allow updates directly. Appears to be a usb cable with a built in serial converter that goes to the braumeister connector of the controller. I'm hoping to find a way to update without the module, as I only want my firmware updated on my controller.

I am reasonably sure that is a standard cable. All we need to know is what is the connector on the other end ? Does anyone know ?

It might be an M12. Has anybody got a photo of either the plug or the socket

From what I have gathered the cable Speidel is using is a USB to Binder 712 connector such as the link below. Data seems to go across as serial type and the USB end appears to have a UART PL2303HX converter built in (usb to serial adapter). I am in the process of ordering both pieces to see if I can come up with anything. I believe these would work together if wired properly (knowing the pinout of the original Speidel BM cable). I wish I could get my hands on a broken / cheap wifi unit and cable to be able to trace the pinout of the cable.

Have I missed something obvious, or is there only support for PC? Nothing for Mac?

MBC :)

It's PC only but I flashed it on a Mac using VMWare and a windows virtual machine.
