Schoolboy error!

Unread postby Wezzel » Sat Nov 12, 2016 2:48 pm

I've often sat sniggering at the mistakes that people make on these forums and thought to myself "how can anybody be that stupid".

What did I do yesterday? I got all prepared the previous night to save time, woke up early and fired up the BM, and then promptly poured in the malt before spotting the filters on the floor. doh!

I then spent an hour, draining the water, bailing out the grain and cleaning out the pump inlet and outlet.

I won't laugh at others again

So far I haven't had that experience, but I'm sure it is a matter of time for something to happen

It's after you've done plenty of brews when the mistakes happen. You get complacent

That's enough to make 4 and 20 schoolgirls sob into handkerchiefs as one.

And I thought I was the only idiot.
First cock up was filling to 23 litres, putting malt pipe in and started up both heating and pump, managed to stop in time before the heating element overheated.
Second was forgetting to put the top mesh filter and plate in, how stupid can you get I ask myself.
At least I believe I've learned from my mistakes.

I add my brewing water by the bucket and more than once I have had the valve in the open position and as I pour in the water, it's running out on the table. At least it's not hot water.

I used to sparge using a gravity fed spinny sparge arm. The HLT was balanced on an upturned FV on a cupboard in the garage so as to get a good head of water. Unfortunately I opened the garage door from outside and knocked nearly 20 litres of very hot water everywhere, including in my open toolboxes
