Re: Brewfather - new brewing software (w/video)

So who else is using this software? I recently found it and like the idea of combining data from my Tilt Hydrometer to my brewing data.

I compared the water profile tool to BruNWater and to Beersmith. It seems a little off but I need to play with it more.

Thoughts?

Re: Rye

Rye or high wheat I would recommend rice hulls. About 220g for 20L (around 1/2 lbs).

Re: Wort Fountain Issue Resolved

It depends on the type of mill. My mill has the knuckles (raised points) that will shred the husks if run too fast. If husks are shredded, then will also impact lautering.

Re: Catalogue of errors

For future mistakes, if you forget the bottom plate: Stop the program and abort Remove malt pipe and empty contents (if any) into bucket Dump entire contents of kettle into buckets (grain & all) Clean out pump Add malt pipe back to kettle with bottom plate installed Pour buckets into malt pipe (with...

Re: Extra grain in a hop bag for High Gravity brew?

I would think it could work but would be concerned with two factors: volume of wort with additional grains and doughballs/circulation. By adding the additional grain, you will also add volume to your BM. I don't know if it will be able to hold all that wort. By also confining the grain bag to space ...

Re: Wort Fountain Issue Resolved

I picked up an old paper shredder from work. Going to harvest the motor, gears, board, and switch from it to try and power my mill. Torque and RPM should be close to what I am looking for and it already has a power code attached to it. :D

Wish me luck!

Wort Fountain Issue Resolved

I wanted to share will all you fine folks the resolution to my wort fountain issue. Backstory: Had my 20L BM for over 5 years. Never had issues with wort fountains at first. Resolution: Started thinking back to when the issue started. They began after I picked up a drill from a local store to power ...

Re: Transfer to keg via beer line

I use the Speidel tanks and pressure transfer to keg from the tank using 2 to 3 psi. Clean keg; sanitize; CO2 flush Please bung with a lid that has compression CO2 post Bleed off CO2 in the keg; attach the liquid post to the spigot on the tank Connect gas post to the fermenter Open the spigot on the...

Re: Temp issues (still)

The last three or four brews have not quite reached the expected OG and have much higher than expected FG, eg. 1021 instead of 1014. I would suggest that's not finished, but rather a stuck fermentation. What was you OG, which yeast did you use and what was your fermentation temperature? Think they ...

Re: Steriliser

I often make ten litres of starter wort and then store it in 1.2 litre bottles in the freezer content in the knowledge that boiling of it before pitching kills any nasties hibernating in it. Much cheaper than using DME. Quite right. Boiling it after you store it will kill off botulism. Just wanted ...

Re: Steriliser

I would not use the BM for sterilization. If you want to sterilize bottles, I would bake them in the oven instead. Water boils at 212F (100C) which does not kill off everything. Dormant spores can persist through a boiling water bath. To properly sterilize, will need to heat past those temps. Good s...

Re: need to replace mesh filter

Been watching this thread for some time, thanks to all who've contributed. Like so many others I don't like the originals or those from Bac Brewing which imho are too fine and the pump certainly has to work harder. Ordered with Prezell Brewings dimensions (thank you) and have to say these are the b...
