Re: Yeast count and Viability

Wow! You have really got this down to the science of it all! Kudos! My poor 79 yr old brain could not do this. I'm just not capable. I only make 5 gal batches of German pils and lagers and just make a 4L starter. I ferment using the Narziss (sp?) process pitching at 42oF and then warming to 50oF. I ...

Re: Hops after boil and transfer to fermentor

I sure like that one over the hop spider...it's right in the center of the boil instead of being held on the side. Are you saying you can put your ic inside it when you're done or do you have to remove it b/4 chilling with the ic? I think I still get pretty good utilization with the spider though......

Re: Hops after boil and transfer to fermentor

I use a hop reservoir sold by Williams Brewing In San Leandro, CA...don't think I have the ability to link or show pic. It's a conical sieve like ss container that just hangs on the BM. I was a bit skeptical at first as to getting hop efficiency, but imho I get all I want out of my hop additions. I,...

Re: Sparging

The way I do it: Sparge with max 5L (but most times 3L) @ around 80C. Sparge with the malt pipe at the highest bolts (so most of the malt pipe is in the wort). Start boiling with the malt pipe hanging there for about 15 minutes (ofcourse it isn't actually boiling yet). As no liquid is visible I put...

Hi Mashy, Hope you and yours had a nice Thanksgiving (hope I'm not out of line here)...

I use sugar for one clear stuff and Golden Promise/Weyermann Peated for another clear stuff.

Re: Greetings from the Sacramento, CA area

We sure have a lot to do here in California...I'll give you that...but it sure is expensive to live here...thinking of moving to Nevada or Idaho...but I think we're too old to make the move comfortably. Thanks for the welcome...and yes, there are a lot of great beers here in California. Personally, ...

IPA...thanks for the link.

My grandfather was born in Paris...can't speak a word of french (maybe a few phrases tho) always wanted to really see France. Been to Villefrance, Nice, and Monte Carlo on a cruise back in the day...but I digress...

Thanks again for the "scoop".

Re: Greetings from the Sacramento, CA area

Welcome aboard. I am sure there will be things you can share with us newbies. I started almost 10 years ago. I replaced mine with the BAC course grade mesh filters... Terrific! Looking at your name... Are you a skeet man? Mashy..you'll have to excuse my ignorance...what is a skeet man? When I was y...

Greetings from the Sacramento, CA area

I would like to introduce myself, just joined the forum. I'm CalHiTower and am an old man...been doing fermentations for almost 45 years. I have a BM20L and just love it. I used to brew with a home made 3 tier 15 gal Sanke keg system (one keg was a Sabco). Sold the whole system in 2014 to get the Sp...
