Re: Hops after boil and transfer to fermentor

even if you add hops at end of boil, how long should they stay in the wort till you could remove the spider, surely they need some time to do their thing?

Re: Hops after boil and transfer to fermentor

If the hop spider is removed during cooling will that have an affect on the desired bitterness and flavour?

Hops after boil and transfer to fermentor

Do many people here use hop spiders in their braumeister. After brewing a very hoppy beer I am left with alot of sludge at the bottom and therefore my efficience is effected as I do not get the full volume anticipated into the fermentor

any tips to maximise what goes into the fermentor

Re: Kegging to bottling

The main reason I want to bottle and keep them at keller temperature is due to space as I only have one fridge I can keep the keg in for 7 days and then I need it to ferment more beer.

On another note can kegged ale be kept at room temp or does that have to be chilled in a keg too

Kegging to bottling

I kegged for the first time (a lager) last night, the keg is now gone into the fridge to keep cold. My plan is to use the keg to carbonate my beers, so after 7 days at the correct PSI I plan to transfer the beer from the keg to bottles using a beer gun. My question is once transferred into bottles c...

Re: Priming Sugar before bottling

Thats the things they were pretty clean at the bottom, there was zero sediment, which indicated to me that there was no yeast in any bottles

I used flip top caps on the bottles and there was the pop when opened with a little smoke but then flat as a pancake beer

Re: Priming Sugar before bottling

Unfortunately, my beer never carbonated! I experimented putting 1 cube in some bottles and 2 in other and neither carbonated any bit. This was after nearly 4 weeks of bottling. They had been sitting in my keller at around 19c and i brought two bottles up to my apartment to condition at around 23c an...

Hopstand

Do many here Hopstand? I will be doing a SMaSH IPA with Mosiac and plan to hopstand at 80c for 30 minutes. The plan is to cut off the water supply to the wort chiller at around 85 and then wait for it to drop to 80C and then add and then restart the chiller after 30 mins Is this how other approach it?

Re: Sparging

I think i oversparged the last time in addition to a poor grain crush.

But I think I will try and keep it simple and mash in with 23L and then after mash top up to 24L for boil, which should give me around 19L in the Fermenter

Re: Sparging

Thanks all, for those who sparge with max 5L. What volume of water do you mash in with so?

I was looking into the 4:1 water grain ratio, however using 4.7kg of grain that would mean 18.8 litres to start with and would require a big sparge in order to bring it up to batch volume

Re: Sparging

I mashed with 4.7kg of grain

I firmly believe it was down to me not milling the grain correctly as my mill is a entry level mill

Sparging

How do most guys sparge with their Braumeister here? I missed my OG (1.038 should have been 1.048) on Saturday. I am pretty sure it was due to the quality of the milled malt but just to eliminate the sparging issue, Mash volume was 23L then I sparged with 8.5 litres, I did not remove the top filters...

Is there any need to use gelatine if Irish Moss or whirlfloc tablets are used?

Re: racking

Sorry to hijack, I am due to rack tonight from my speidel 30l plastic fermenter, is it worth transferring to secondary and bottling straight away or should I bottle straight from the primary speidel?

Re: Lagering

I was given the ingredients already for the Czech Pilsner so I will be doing it this weekend. I have already done alot reading and still trying to learn all the processes. The Lager will be kept very simple with no messing around hopefully it will come out as expected. My only question is after ferm...
