Re: recommended method for pellet hops

brewedout
do you run the pump when chilling? As stated earlier my concern is with blocking the pump during chilling but as it is a magnetic coupled pump I guess no harm would be done anyway.

Re: Bru'n Water

I have also found that bru n water works well for ph values, you may find his recommendations for maximum calcium/ suphate/chloride to be different to the British suggestions. The british seem to suggest that more is allowable ,although the ratios seem about the same. eg bru n water for brown bitter 6...

Re: need to replace mesh filter

@grooves that looks correct as i have found 350mm quoted as the diameter of the malt pipe, less the thickness of the steel. The size quoted for the 20l Bm was 266mm and i think the malt pipe is 270mm so it seems correct @batz the ebay listing is quoting 40 pounds each,I am going to contact them direc...

Re: Full volume no sparge (FVNS)

you dont mention the final quantity of wort.
I always do full volume and have found my gravities to be as expected ,however I was using beersmith and had to reduce my water as the grain absorbsion was less than the software expected.

Re: "Batch sparging" idea

the differnce is probably down to the different grain absorbsion figures set up in beersmith,I brew using the BIAB grain setting and no sparge and get pretty consistant results

Re: Jacket

I have a spiedel jacket as I brew in my garage.
I would suggest using a yoga mat or some other insulation to make your own cheaper, even indoors it will help with temp ramping and vigorous boiling as suggested

Re: need to replace mesh filter

I've just started using the Bac filter disks and I find them much better than the original Speidel woven mesh ones and they are also much easier to clean than the originals. I've found them to have been a worthwhile ugrade for me and can recommend them. I assume they are the more open 1.2mm ...

I have been using hop basket then cooling with pump and running off almost straight away with no whirlpool as the trub settles q...
