Re: Reversing the Flow through the Malt Pipe on 20lt BM

@IPA, please read my post as whole - I have noted with which malts there are problems. You are now saying something everyone knows - I also get great results with say Vikingmalt pale ale as base malt, but that is not the point. ---------- There is no downgrade with this mod. With it you still keep ...

Re: Reversing the Flow through the Malt Pipe on 20lt BM

I think you are doing something basically wrong with your brewing procedure. With twelve kilos of grain I would get 46 litres of wort in the FV with an OG of 1066. That is a mash efficiency of 83%. With a 50 litre BM I regularly brew 57 litres at 1050. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Speidel'...

Re: BM50 LOB setup

With 12.2 kg of grain and a brew length of 47 litres (44 in the fv) the OG in my system would be 1.066. That is significantly higher than 1.051. My efficiency is 83%. Follow my advice about mashing and you will achieve the same. Hi IPA Second brew just finished. With attention to good stirring of t...

Re: timer

That would work, I prefer a cold overnight "wait" and then up to temp when you need it. I guess it could depend on your controller. Hi Mashy I have both controllers and it works with both. Plus no waiting in morning. I also sling an old blanket over the BM in addition to the insulated jacket during...

Re: BM50 LOB setup

I am not familiar with Beersmith. I use a free programme designed by the author of the book that you have just purchased, the late Graham Wheeler, called Beer Engine. You can download it for free on Jims Beer Kit. If you need any help on how to use it with the BM just shout.

Re: BM50 LOB setup

Been brewing with a BM for ten years and cannot for the life of me understand the need to remove oxygen. I have brewed almost all styles of beer with great results. There are far too many "experts" on the internet trying to make a simple process difficult. Strangely the majority are Mercan. And what...

Re: timer

Manually set the temperature to your desired mash in temperature. Press HEAT. Go to bed and wake up in the morning and proceed with your desired programme.

Re: BM50 LOB setup

With that amount of grain and only 45 litres of wort at 1051 your efficiency is really low. This is almost certainly due to the fact that the full malt tube was lowered into the liquor. You will notice an improvement if you fill the malt tube when it is in place. Fill it slowly bit at a time and mas...

Re: Brackets on control unit

The best solution is to use a BacBrewing Springer. No tilting required and it leaves just one litre of wort remaining in the pot.

Buy a short malt pipe rather than damage the standard one.

Re: recommended kit brew

Use this. One teaspoon,no more!,disolved in twenty five litres warm water. Leave overnight and then rinse thoroughly. Also disassemble the posts and soak them. It's the best and cheapest sanitiser available. https://swimmingpoolchemicals.co.uk/chlorine-shock-calcium-hypochlorite-granules-p-794.html?...

Re: Barley Wine Carbonation

It will continue to carbonate albeit slowly. To check the progress of carbonation with every brew that I do I fill a PET bottle and a simple squeeze test then reveals the internal pressure.
